Our History

What We’ve Been Up To

Our Creation

Back in 1979 four Italian lads who were playing for Park FC decided to create their own club to give their friends a chance to play the beautiful game. They were Peter Cuffaro, Joe Bondi, Emilio Fattore and Nino Coletti. They approached Glynwell Produce who generously sponsored the side with brand new kit and the yearly running costs for pitch hire at Presdales in Ware. The club named Glynwell then started life with a small squad of players in the McMullen Hertford and District Football League during the 1980-81 season.

Back in the day things weren’t easy for the new club as joint founder Peter Cuffaro, 56, now a solicitor from Ware, explains. “There was a lot of indiscipline and abuse of the referees! Our record was so bad that our expulsion from the league was proposed and I had to go and stand up for the club,” said Peter.

Heritage

The lads were so proud of their Italian heritage that they wore the Italy World Cup winning kit during the triumphant 1982 season. It was something that bonded the young men together and instilled a fierce sense of pride that, matched with fiery Italian temperament, sometimes boiled over. But the club survived and Alan Smith and Nino Giannone took over the runningof the side from Peter in 1984. In 1987 the team sponsor changed to Mr Unique Tyre and Exhaust. The club changed its name to Inter Unique to honour the new sponsor, as well as cementing the Italian heritage.

The Rise

As we entered the 21st century, Inter had around 35 players registered and were able to run a First and Reserve side. During that era, Mario Giannattasio ran the first team assisted by Franco Piazza and current manager Angelo. The reserves were looked after by Nino Giannone.

Love of the Game

In 2008, with Franco in sole control of the first team (with Angelo helping) he lead the side to its first major honour by lifting the Jubilee Cup. So why is it so important for us to keep our Italian heritage? Peter Cuffaro says: “Our core values come from our families. Our parents had to work hard doing jobs like packing cucumbers for many hours each day but they still made time for us to go out and play football. “We all came from that same background and it means such a lot, that respect for each other and our desire to do our best for the team. And because we love football. “Although times change, those basic values do not and this is now instilled in what is now Inter Hoddesdon.”
